A science background is NOT necessary – we need a planner/organizer! The position deals with the coordination and logistics of a science tournament hosted by KU on 3/17/2022 (snow date 3/18). This is a 200-hour assistantship (~13.3 hours per week) for a stipend of $2,500 and six (6) credits of tuition remission. Preparation begins mid-November and continues over winter break, concluding at the end of March. Services will not be needed in April. Preparation for the Science Olympiad includes extensive email communications between coaches/supervisors/teams/sponsors. Planning includes fundraising (for raffle prizes), catering issues, room reservations, volunteer recruitment, advertising, and website-management. Hours are very flexible as long as the duties are accomplished. The Science Olympiad is a qualifying event for schools to progress toward a statewide competition. Over 600 middle and high school students from grades 6-12 will compete in a variety of challenging events. This competitive experience includes all disciplines of science. Previously, 29 high schools and 13 middle schools from five (5) counties brought teams to compete in 46+ events.
