    Graduate Assistant - Embracing Cultural Communities (ECC)

    Health Promotion and Alcohol & Other Drug Services seek a master's student in Counseling/Student Affairs or those with experience in peer-to-peer education. Embracing Cultural Communities (ECC) Graduate Assistant (GA) is a grant-funded position that is 20 hours a week with a 9-credit student waiver. Experience in alcohol and other drug services is preferred. Lifetime personal and professional experience working successfully with diverse student populations is required.

    The ECC GA will focus on alcohol prevention initiatives with diverse student populations, including developing, planning, and implementing educational programs, activities, and events focused on promising evidence-informed alcohol prevention. Also, the graduate student will work with faculty to learn counseling prevention approaches, the development of an alcohol prevention curriculum, and assess the project. ECC GA will utilize their skills in public speaking and receive training and professional mentorship in alcohol substance use prevention and misuse. The GA will be responsible for assisting the Director of Health Promotion and Alcohol & Other Drug Services in web-based reporting and online educational programs. The position requires flexibility to be available two evenings during the week for requested presentations/delivery of services. Also, there are two conferences to attend. Technical knowledge/experience in SPSS & Excel databases preferred and proficiency in ZOOM. Under the supervision of the Director, the ECC GA develop processes to work with ECC peer educators and Diversity Equity Inclusion Centers. The position will receive training in college evidence-based programs: (BASICS) Brief Alcohol Screening Intervention for College Students, (AUDIT) Alcohol Use Disorders Identification Test Programs, (CMCA) Communities Mobilizing for Change on Alcohol, Social Norms, and Step UP! The assistantship will provide the graduate student with hands-on experiences to support being job-ready for prevention-type careers. The department will also support the student's professional education development through conferences and educational opportunities that support the Health Promotion and Alcohol & Other Drug Services department.
