Graduate Assistant (Recruitment, Retention, and Success) - Multicultural Center

    Position Description:

Graduate assistants in the Multicultural Center assist in all areas of Center programming, Center hours coverage, and general support of the events and activities of the Multicultural Center.  All assistants develop, with the Center Director, office hours, short-term and long-term goals, and specific tasks related to their specific position description and general support of the mission and purposes of the Center. Specific responsibilities of this position include: (1.) coordinate the college awareness program, Granted Access Project, including all aspects of planning and execution and the Granted Access Project Mentor Program. The Granted Access Project Program provides a service to the local community and helps advance the University’s mission as it relates to Community Engagement and a Caring Community by providing services to an underrepresented population and promoting the attainment of higher education.  Approximately 50 students are recruited starting with 9th grade from the Reading School District to encourage and promote higher education. The participants can stay in the program through to graduation and are encouraged to apply to Kutztown University. The program is designed to acclimate them to the college environment and support their academic goals. They are invited to campus three times a semester for workshops and to attend college classes. The coordinator organizes these events, creates and facilitates workshops, and goes into the schools when needed for visitation permissions, meetings with the counselors and to recruit participants; (2.) work with other recruitment programs such as the Minority Overnight Recruitment Experience Program serving on the committee and assisting with the program; and, (3.) develop social or educational programs in the Center specifically for freshman and sophomore students – especially those that were part of the Granted Access or Minority Overnight Recruitment Experience Programs – to assist them with being a successful student and staying enrolled at Kutztown University. The Center encourages applicants from all areas; however, job duties and experiences most directly relate to academic course work in Student Affairs, Counseling, and Education. The position is 20 hrs/week.

Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis.
